As an ‘add on’ to my blog last week regarding NAEA Propertymark, I wanted to briefly mention the participation of ARLA (the Association of Residential Letting Agents) in this new customer-focussed organisation too. 
It may just seem like a simple thing to do (and the more cynical amongst you may think that there must very obviously be ‘something in it’ for them); what must be remembered however is that both NAEA and ARLA have up to now been very much industry-facing and this move into consumer protection really does herald a new era. 
The lettings market is facing some significant challenges at the moment and both landlords and tenants should feel reassured that ARLA (just like NAEA) want the public have a much better understanding of how to make good choices in their agent. 
The Chief Executives of both ARLA and NAEA said recently:- 
“At present customers don’t know where to go for advice or can’t be sure if they are dealing with a professional. We are changing this. We will reach out to customers directly so they recognise Propertymark and understand that by using a Propertymark protected agent they and their money are safe.” 
Good news in a time of change and uncertainty, and one more step in the fight against rogue agents – just the kind of thing we at Strawberry love and support with our membership.
